A meaningful slice of routine maintenance — air filters, brake pads on iron-disc cars — uses parts you can buy off the shelf and have installed by any competent independent. Air filters — the 10-minute service
- BMC full filter kit for the 720S (2017+) — washable, high-flow replacements for the 4.0L twin-turbo V8. Buy once, clean and re-oil forever.
- BMC cylindrical filter kit for the 540C/570 family (3.8L) — same idea for the Sports Series.
Both are drop-in — no tuning, no CEL, and they outflow the paper elements they replace.
Brake pads — MP4-12C (iron discs)
The MP4-12C and its Spider run conventional calipers that accept quality aftermarket pads:
- Hawk HPS 5.0 front pads — high-performance street compound; strong cold bite, streetable dust and noise. Fits 2012–2014 MP4-12C and Spider.
- EBC Yellowstuff rear pads — aramid compound with strong bite from cold; street and occasional track.
- EBC Bluestuff NDX rear pads — the track-day compound that still drives home.
Carbon-ceramic cars: these pads are for iron-disc setups. CCM discs take dedicated pads — talk to us before ordering anything.

FAQ
Will aftermarket filters or pads void my McLaren warranty?
On a 2012–2014 12C, factory warranty is long gone. For newer cars under extended plans, a dealer must tie the part to a failure — keep records.
Why are the EBC pads listed with Lotus fitment too?
The 12C shares caliper/pad shape with the Lotus Evora family per the manufacturer fitment table — same pad, two very different cars.
Do I need special tools for the filters?
The BMC kits are drop-in replacements. The 720S engine cover access takes patience more than tools.
Street or track compound?
HPS 5.0/Yellowstuff for street-driven cars; Bluestuff NDX if you run track days. Track compounds trade noise and dust for fade resistance.
