Cometic C4246-075 is a five-layer MLS (multi-layer steel) cylinder head gasket for the Volkswagen/Audi EA827 1.8L and 2.0L 8-valve four-cylinder, with an 85mm bore and .075in compressed thickness. The thicker spec is a common pick when the head or block has been decked and the builder wants to restore stock compression, or when running a taller piston.

Embossed outer stainless layers are coated with Viton to seal against aluminum heads and cast-iron blocks without sealant, while the uncoated center shim sets the thickness. Cometic MLS gaskets need less clamp load than composite gaskets, which keeps bore distortion down on a freshly machined block.

Verified fitment: 1984 Audi 4000 S, plus 1983-1993 Volkswagen Golf, GTI, Jetta, Cabriolet, Fox, Quantum, Rabbit and Scirocco with the EA827 1.8/2.0L 8v engine, per Cometic's application catalog.
